Members of the Zulu Nation Send a Warning to Popular Website World Star Hip Hop

In an open letter to Lee “Q” O’Denat founder of, members of the hip-hop awareness group The Universal Zulu Nation headed by hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa addresed some of the many issues they have with the website in the way it portray’s hip hop culture and the exploitation of those individuals who are featured in many of the violent videos on the popular website that is ranked as 247th in site traffic in the United States and 983rd for worldwide traffic, according to Alexa.

The Zulu Nation says World Star does not rep hip-hop culture at all, and here’s the open letter in full that was sent to it’s founder this week.

Mr. O’Denat,

On behalf of the thousands of members of the Universal Zulu Nation, of which I am Minister Of Information, I write you this letter in peace and hope these words find you in the best of health and spirits. Brother, we at UZN have the utmost respect and love for all who choose to take our Culture to new heights, and we thank you for your part in creating new media that preserves our culture. It is with great sadness that we bring to your attention the obvious ills of your site, Mister O’Denat, you are well aware, or should be well aware that many are viewing your site’s content as very graphic and extremely violent. Before you brush this off as just another person’s opinion of your site and the content you publish, please do not get it confused. This is not the case.

As I mentioned earlier, Mr. O’Denat, I am a representative of the Universal Zulu Nation, and we take our Culture quite serious. You are a Black man who has accomplished quite a lot without a formal education, and I’m quite sure when you dropped out of New York’s Grover Cleveland High School, you would never have imagined that you’d be as successful with your company, World Star, LLC. Doesn’t it bother you just a little that another Black man (that man being yourself), has “made it” out of the “ghetto”, only to display unnerving images and videos of young adults berating, belittling, and beating each other solely for the purpose of the enjoyment of who you are led to believe are “millions of Hip-Hoppers?”

Mr. O’Denat, the followers of your site are impressionable young men and women who “follow” you for a reason. As salacious as you may want your site to be, our youth are looking for answers and solutions to the many problems that plague our communities. The young people use your site as an outlet to escape the world they are living in, only to find that you place them right back at the starting point. Brother, you are well aware, or should be aware of the way Haitians are treated all over the world, including their own country. After all, Mr. O’Denat, you are Haitian, and you have even labeled yourself as a “Haitian Ghetto Nerd”, to gain God knows what kind of accolades. I am not Haitian, but I find it deplorable for a Haitian to associate such a dignified people with the “ghetto”, when Haitians come to this country to escape ghetto life.

Brother, I am sure you heard God speaking to you when the earthquakes in Haiti destroyed so many lives, and many of us di a fair share of work to help those in need. The repair for the damage done physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially will be an ongoing process that will take decades. But one of the brilliant brothers of Haitian decent is instead showering the world with what you call “the CNN of the Ghetto”. Brother, you are sadly mistaken if you would like the world to believe that hype. If you understand journalism 101, news is reported with two sides. Your excerpts of ghetto life, your lack of morality when accepting uploaded material, and your drive to maintain a site for the sole intent to destroy our Culture’s standing in these Americas is both uncouth and unacceptable by all of us at UZN. We are hereby separating ourselves and our followers from your site and what it supposedly stands for. Brother, if you were in fact the “CNN of the ghetto”, then you, as a former resident of Queens, NY should already know who Zulu is and what real Hip-Hop Culture is. Mr. O’Denat, there are many real Hip-Hoppers from Queens who laid the brick in the wall that you are trying to tear down.

You should already know about Run-DMC, Larry Smith, Salt-N-Pepa, Nas, MC Shan, LL Cool J and the founders of FUBU Clothing, to name a new. These men and women purposed to create a platform of expression for our Culture, and through the years, they have maintained and preserved that Culture. Mr. O’Denat, you are a Haitian, so you should know how serious Haitians are about their Culture. We are just as serious.

This is a new year, and the Universal Zulu Nation has begun a movement against anyone who is against us. Mr. O’Denat, either you are for Hip-Hop Culture, or you are not. There is no in-between, and no matter how many people have hyped you to believe that WorldStarHipHop is anything close to what this Culture is, they told you a lie. Mr. O’Denat, Hip-Hop Culture is FOUNDED on four spiritual principles. In case you haven’t already been schooled on what those principles are, they are: Peace, Unity, Love and Havin’ Fun. Mr. O’Denat, I pray that you do become a “CNN of the ghetto”, and that you someday get a camera and go to the ghetto yourself to record both sides of our neighborhoods. We still do have neighborhoods, brother.

Mr. O’Denat, can you imagine how much more hits WorldStarHipHop would have if you were intuitive enough to record rising Black political stars and activists, and some of the issues they discuss when trying to fix our problems nationwide? Or videos of Black political superstars like Barack and Michelle Obama. I would have loved to see the behind-the-scenes footage of the President at home with the wife and kids – on your website. I invite you to meet me in The Bronx, Boston, Virginia, The Carolinas, Chicago, DC, Maryland, Detroit, or any place that you feel more comfortable, so we may discuss the realities of “the ghetto” and how you can be better involved.

Mr. O’Denat, in closing I am asking you to remove the footage of the young man being forced to strip naked outside while people look on and another young man beats him with a belt while the camera man pours water on his fully naked body.

This is the link in question, Mr, O’Denat:

This is not the first time you have posted content that has been of this nature, and from the looks of it, this is probably Child Pornography. Therefore, I will forward the link and the video to the proper authorities to be sure that these young people are in fact of age and in full consent of being on your site in such a demeaning fashion. I’m unsure if this will bring about any charges, as there is a huge rumor on the streets that you are in fact working for the feds and are using your site as a cover up. But who knows? Mr. O’Denat, I again ask that you look into the fact that you and your site have misused our Culture’s name, committed fraud and falsely advertised your site as “Hip-Hop”. You have forced the hand of the Universal Zulu Nation to take further action should you continue to promote your “CNN of the ghetto” as “Hip-Hop”, and we are asking with all due respect that you include a disclaimer at the bottom of the front page of your website concerning your company and Hip-Hop Culture. A great footnote on your site should be:

“World Star Hip-Hop is in no way affiliated with real Hip-Hop Culture or its’ founders or the Universal Zulu Nation. This site solely for entertainment purposes, and does not promote Hip-Hop Culture”

Mr. O’Denat, you are free to use the above language, or you may use any language you see fit that parallels the language above. Please contact me at your earliest convenience, should you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached at or 617-297-7423.

Dwyane Wade opts out of contract, becomes free agent

In a mild surprise, the Heat’s star wing will leave two years and $41 million on the table to become a free agent.

Dwyane Wade has exercised the early termination clause in his contract, becoming a free agent alongside LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Wade was slated to make $41 million over the next two years, but elected to become a free agent even though his game is in clear decline. The hope is that he can sign a long-term contract, presumably at a lower annual figure.

Wade only played in 54 regular-season games in 2013-14, battling through various injuries and getting rest throughout the campaign. The former Marquette star averaged 19 points per game, the lowest number since Wade’s rookie season in 2003-04 when he scored 16.2 points per night. Wade’s rebounding was also down to to 4.5, his lowest since 2007-08.

Ranking the top 75 players
In the NBA Finals, Wade suffered through a nightmare of a series. He averaged 15 points per game and shot just 7-of-25 over the last two games.

Wade’s departure opens up a huge chunk of Miami’s salary cap. With a $20.1 million salary for 2014-15 and a $21.6 million option for 2015-16 off the books, the Heat have ample room to bring back both James and Wade, perhaps at a much lower cap figure.

By opening up money, general manager Pat Riley can add better depth and role players after being demolished by the San Antonio Spurs. Should Chris Bosh also opt out and forfeit his $20.6 million number, Miami suddenly has the most cap space in the NBA.

Wade will turn 33 years old in January and is likely looking for his last substantial contract.

Kandi Burruss changed prenup for Todd Tucker

Kandi Burruss had no intention of getting married to Todd Tucker unless her fiancé signed the prenup before their walk down the aisle, and he did, but not before she made a few changes.

“I removed that,” Kandi told Andy Cohen about a clause in the contract that would have denied Todd any financial support in the event of Kandi’s death. “My thing was, overall, there was nothing major that we couldn’t just change the one or two things that were a problem.”

Kandi said when speaking to Todd’s attorney, she got the impression that all the concerns were over money. “We were supposed to be on the same page,” explained Kandi who said she and Todd had discussed the agreement many times.

In the end, Todd said he signed the prenup to prove once and for all that his commitment to Kandi had nothing to do with financial security or greed.

“I’m in this relationship because I love Kandi, not because I want her money,” he said in a preview for the “Kandi’s Wedding” finale.

Todd, who quit his job after getting serious with Kandi, had to consistently fight off rumors and accusations that he’s an opportunist looking to take advantage of the Kandi Koated Nights entrepreneur.

However, Kandi reminded fans that Todd’s unemployment was a sacrifice that he made for their relationship. The two met during production and Todd had to quit his job after telling his employers about his romance.

The New Rick Ross ( 100 Pounds Better )

Screen shot 2014-06-23 at 2.41.17 PM

Wow – that’s about all we can say regarding Rick Ross‘s serious weight loss. The MMG rapper has shed over 100 pounds, and honestly, he looks good.

The corrections-officer-turned-rapper has always been a big guy, and he’s never been too ashamed to show us all what he had to offer. Rozay didn’t leave the body flaunting to just Trey Songz and Usher. He’s been right with them, ripping his shirt off at shows to flaunt his plus-sized figure, making himself an honorary member of the “Free the Nipple” movement.

But now, he definitely has something to flaunt. Rozay opened up to Washington DC’s radio WKYS 93.9 FM about his big weight loss and the previous struggles he went through:

“It was just time for me to tighten up a little bit, you know what I’m saying?  As far as, you know, me working out…I have no destination, no specific weight.”

Rozay also mentioned that his secret to losing the weight was Crossfit. A year ago, Rick Ross andReebok collaborated and endorsed the company, which advocates fitness, circuit training, and health. It seemed a little weird that Ross was the face behind the fitness brand at the time, but the deal really paid off.

He’s not stopping there, though. According to an interview with Tim Westwood in London, Ross made a huge change in his eating habits as well:

“You know, the most I used to do for exercise was stand up to count the money, you know what I’m saying? But now, they, you know, they give me fruit to eat. I forgot what fruit, you know, tasted like. I eat pears now and s–t like that.”

It’s safe to say that if Rick takes off his shirt at the next show, fans will be surprised to see what’s underneath! If you forgot, check out our gallery of shirtless Rick Ross below.

Benzino’s Fiancee Althea Says Shower Rod Sausage Slinger Nikko Tried To Make A Freaky Flick With Her First!

On the current season of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, it has been revealed that Benzino’s fiancee of the month Althea Gibson also has a history with Mimi Faust’s shady boyfriend and freaky flick co-star Nikko Smith, but Nikko has repeatedly insisted that Althea is nothing more than his “leftover.”

In the midst of Nikko’s not-so-nice description of Althea, she took to her Instagram with this message that Mimi surely wasn’t too happy about:

SMH. If Mimi needed anymore proof that her loverboy DEFINITLEY leaked that tape, the fact that he’s tried to make one in the past should just about do the trick, riiiigght?

Benzino faces a family tragedy. CREDIT: VH1

This was an hour with no major confrontations, no real ratchet-ness resulting in “Love and Hip Hop” security guards jumping in to break up the madness.

In other words, this was a highly unusual episode of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.”

Not to say it was boring. There were plenty of interesting side trips and set ups for future episodes.

Also, this was a rare week where there was no clear “A” story. Here’s a quick summary of various mini-stories.

Gettin’ aroundBenzino‘s fiance Althea has apparently slept with every dude on this cast but Benzino only now learns about Stevie J. She decides to be honest with him about Stevie J. He doesn’t take it well but it was in the past. He’ll get over it.

Who knows what? Speaking of Althea, she converses with Joseline, who is not friends with any woman because she always thinks that every woman is ready to sleep with her man Stevie J. She doesn’t know it yet, but Althea has already slept with her man – albeit before Joseline came in the picture. Joseline, in the meantime, is prepping for a musical showcase. Remember: she is a rap star now!

All apologies: Kirk Frost’s sincere New Orleans apology with Rasheeda last week worked. This week, we see them in bed together, post coitus. “It’s time,” she says, “to stop fighting.”

Three’s a crowdKalenna Harper, a new recurring character who has barely shown up this season, is suddenly around with her purple hair and horny nature. She is recording music and her husband Tony wants her to focus on that. So she brings down her girlfriend Ashley from out of town to loosen her loins – and her mind. Tony wants in on the action, but Ashley just wants Kalenna for herself. He barely protests, staying downstairs while the ladies do it up upstairs. Was this a porn interlude or an actual storyline?

Notable quote: “When I see it, I get creative,” Kalenna says, referencing Ashley’s butt and her ability to then finish her record.

Truth or lies? Speaking of porn, Mimi is increasingly suspicious that Nikko leaked the sex tape, which is due to hit the Web soon. (Then again, skeptical viewers wonder if Mimi knew about this all along and that this is all a “Love and Hip Hop”-inspired “act.”). Her friend Ariane “confronts” Nikko at a gym and fails to get him to admit anything so she leaves frustrated.

Notable quote: “I like what I like.” – Mimi’s rationale for dating men like Stevie J and Nikko.

A tragic turn: Benzino’s mom dies so he has to fly up to Boston. He references messed up family issues. Stevie J, his buddy, joins him and hopes to reconnect with his own mom, goaded by Joseline.

Waka where? Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera, for the second week in a row, are absent from the proceedings.

Benzino gets shot! Kirk and Rasheeda’s mom confront each other. And Mimi and Nikko continue to clash over the sex tape.

The show keeps getting more popular. The eighth episode last week hit its season high of 3.9 million viewers last week and hit a 2.0 rating among 18-49 year olds. The repeat drew another 2.1 million that night. The show is ahead of last year at this point. The eighth episode last year drew 2.96 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating.

Report: Bulls’ Derrick Rose prefers Kevin Love to Carmelo Anthony

It seems more and more likely that the Bulls will be heavily in the mix to add a superstar talent via trade or free agency this summer.

Carmelo Anthony may be highest on their list, given that Chicago can sign him outright once he opts out of the final year of his Knicks contract to become an unrestricted free agent. But Kevin Love is probably not too far behind, even though the Bulls would need to acquire him via trade, which could prove tricky if they want to keep the key pieces already in place.

Derrick Rose is expected to be 100 percent to start next season, and his presence is one of many factors which make the Bulls such a desirable destination. And he reportedly has a preference in which superstar he’d like to see added to his team’s roster.

From Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News:

According to sources close to Kevin Love, Rose’s preference is for the Bulls to work out a deal as soon as possible for Minnesota’s All-Star forward because he sees Love as more of a team player than Anthony. Chicago is in the mix with Golden State for Love, with Boston and Denver considered long shots. If it makes any difference to Melo, Rose has no plans to recruit Love, who is free next summer, either. But the Bulls already know whom he’d really prefer to play with in the future.

Every player in the league would have a preference if asked who they’d like to play alongside with. It doesn’t mean, however, that they wouldn’t welcome the opportunity to play with a whole host of talented, proven stars.

The Bulls won’t be consulting Rose on any of their roster moves this summer, and will do what makes the most sense to set the team up for long-term success. If that means clearing the cap space necessary to sign Anthony outright — leaving the team’s core intact so it could immediately contend for a title — something tells me that Rose wouldn’t have an issue with that decision.
