Bobbi Kristina Brown’s perilous medical condition changed briefly but not for the better: She suffered seizures when doctors attempted to wean her off drugs that had put her in a medically induced coma.
She’s still in a coma in an Atlanta hospital, still fighting for her life following the seizures, according to a source close to the situation but unauthorized to speak publicly.
People and CNN also are reporting the development.
People‘s anonymous family source described the seizures as “violent,” further alarming her already anguished family gathered at the hospital since Bobbi Kristina was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her Roswell, Ga., home on Jan. 31.
CNN, also quoting an unnamed family source, said doctors were forced to put her back on the coma drugs.
Last week, doctors removed her breathing tube, a standard procedure performed after time to prevent infections, protect the vocal cords and keep the lungs clear of fluid.
Jordan S. Josephson, an ENT specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital, told USA TODAY the tracheostomy procedure is typically done when people are expected to be on a ventilator for more than a couple of days.
In attempting to wean her off the coma drugs, doctors treating her might have sought to learn how Bobbi Kristina would react — perhaps even emerge from the coma, according to other medical experts on brain injuries quoted by People.
There have been no official comments from her family or their lawyers.
Her father, Bobby Brown, and her Houston relatives (from her mother, the lateWhitney Houston), have said almost nothing about her condition or how she is been treated by doctors.
Nor has there been comment from her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, who’s a focus of the police investigation of what happened to her, and who’s been attack-tweeting Bobby Brown recently over whether he can visit Bobbi Kristina in the hospital.
