Max B’s Appeal Denied, Will Be In Prision For the Rest Of His Life

On Thursday, in New Jersey Court of Appeals it was decided that Max B, a now 34 year old Harlem rapper who is currently incarcerated for his part in a 2006 robbery and murder of David Taylor in a Fort Lee Holiday Inn hotel room, will continue the remainder of his 75-year conviction.

The rapper, real name Charly Wingate, was convicted after Bergen County prosecutors argued that he arranged for his stepbrother, Kevin Leerdam, and his girlfriend, Gina Conway, to be at the the hotel to commit the robbery.

The targets of the robbery, David Taylor and Allan Plowden, were seen driving a 2007BMW and flashing a lot of money in Harlem during September 2006 – a few day before Max B’s hotel scheme.

Plowden, who was an inmate during the trial in 2009, admitted to obtaining the money from mortgage and credit card fraud.

During the trial Conway testified to being the bait, saying she met Plowden in Harlem and he took her to the Mahwahhotel. After, she told Max B that Plowden had a lot of money and the rapper devised a plan making his stepbrother the muscle of the operation.

The next day, Conway and Leerdam confronted Plowden who was at the time being entertained by a prostitute while staying at Fort Lee’s Holiday Inn.

When they failed to find the money in the room they ordered Plowden to call on Taylor. In a few minutes when arriving to the room, Taylor was shot in the face by Leerdam.

The two only left with a few things like a lap top and a thousand dollars.

Due to her plea deal, Conway received a 15 year sentence.

Leerdam who also got his appealed denied, is serving a sentence of life plus 35 years.

CHRIS LIGHTY DIE’S AT AGE 44

Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty died Thursday morning after apparently shooting himself in the head in his Bronx apartment, sources told the Daily News.

Lighty, 44 — a longtime manager of 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey — was found dead inside his South Riverdale apartment about 11:30 a.m., police sources said.

It appeared he died from a bullet to his head, sources said. A gun was recovered next to his body.

Law enforcement sources said Lighty — who divorced his wife, Veronica, last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.

Musicians began Tweeting about Lighty soon after news of his death spread.

“R.I.P. Chris Lighty,” posted Fat Joe on his Twitter account. “That man saved my life.”

Frank Ocean has been having a hell of a week. First, he came out online to nearly universal support, ranging from positive tweets and blog comments to a poem from the desk of one Beyoncé Knowles. Music critics have also been pretty enamored with Ocean’s debut album Channel Orange, heaping mounds of acclaim all over the thing. The projected sales of the record don’t look too bad either. However, Target had to come in and be a total buzzkill to all the positive vibes coming towards Ocean’s way.

The big box retailer announced that they would not be carrying Ocean’s album. News of Target’s decision was revealed by way of tweets from Odd Future (and Ocean’s) manager Christian Clancy. Clancy initially tweeted that, “Target has refused to carry Frank’s album because of iTunes exclusive,” referencing the surprise availability of Channel Orange through the online music store a week before the album’s physical release. Clancy then alluded to the possibility that Ocean’s recent self-outing may have also influenced the company’s decision in a follow up tweet, “Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations.”

Target then fired back at allegations of bias against Ocean. In a statement to Billboard.biz, Target stated that, “the claims made about Target’s decision to not carry the Frank Ocean album are absolutely false. Target supports inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of our business. Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand.” Clancy would later delete his accusatory tweets, saying the posts were, “knee jerk reacting.” In unrelated news, Christian Clancy is the most grateful person aliveaccording to his Twitter feed. Then again, with the kind of time that he must be having with Ocean and the rest of the OF crew, he has no reason not to be.
